Charlotte traffic: Wreck cleared on I-77 South in Charlotte
A wreck has been cleared that blocked the left and center lanes of southbound Interstate 77 near Tyvola Road, Exit 5, in Charlotte Tuesday morning.
The wreck happened about 9 a.m. State highway officials said the wreck was cleared shortly before 9:30 a.m., although congestion remained.
In other traffic news:
▪ Matthews Mint Hill Road near Butler High School in Matthews reopened about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, after a fire in an abandoned barn closed a stretch of the road about two hours earlier.
Firefighters controlled the fire by about 5 a.m., but the road remained closed as firefighters continued working at the scene.
▪ In Gastonia, five adults and two children were hospitalized after a single-car wreck on southbound I-85 at U.S. 321 Monday night, Gastonia Fire Department spokesman Chris Stowe said.
The car struck a guardrail, overturned and landed in woods. Two passengers were ejected, and firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free another one.
All seven occupants were taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia with serious and life-threatening injuries, Stowe said.
The wreck happened about 7:30 p.m. and blocked two of three lanes, causing major delays for hours.
