Photo mistake corrected on Tiawana Brown story

An article published Thursday morning about the federal indictment of Charlotte City Council member Tiawana Brown initially mistakenly included a photo of fellow council member Marjorie Molina, identifying her as Brown. This was an error, and Molina has nothing to do with Brown’s case.

Accuracy and fairness are the two biggest bedrock fundamentals that guide The Charlotte Observer’s journalism, and we regret this error and any impact it had on council member Molina. We corrected it immediately on our website and then on social media and other platforms.

A caption on a file photo in the Observer’s system, retrieved and published by an editor, mistakenly identified Molina as Brown. We are taking steps to ensure such an error does not happen again.
