Welcome to Dilworth, one of Charlotte’s oldest neighborhoods.

Why it’s called Dilworth

The Dilworth neighborhood is named after Edward Dilworth Latta, a traveling salesman who opened a clothing store in Charlotte in 1876, according to writing by UNC Charlotte history professor Dan Morrill. Latta was among a group of businessmen who saw the South’s potential for industrialization and urbanization rather than a small agriculture-based economy. By 1920, he paved the way to shift Charlotte from a small commercial center to an “industrial and financial metropolis.”

Latta moved into the real estate industry where he partnered with the Olmstead Brothers in 1911 to design what would become the Dilworth neighborhood, according to the National Park Service.

Considered an “exclusive” suburb by Charlotte Communities Online, Dilworth is now known for its tree-lined and curved streets, walkability, beautiful homes and historical charm. According to Redfin, Dilworth is home to sprawling green spaces, eclectic dining options and numerous walking trails.

Average priced single-family home

As of April 2025, the median sale price for single-family homes in Dilworth is $1,860,000, according to Redfin.
