More homes needed for Gaston shelter cats and dogs

The Gaston County Animal Shelter issued another plea Wednesday for people to take in its dogs and cats, as refinishing of the shelter’s kennel floors continues for about another week and a half.

So far during the renovations, 37 animals have been adopted by residents and 65 have been taken by organizations that find homes for the animals.

“So far during this process, citizen and placement partner response to finding homes for pets in our shelter has been phenomenal,” said veterinarian Kristine Blankenship, the shelter’s administrator.

Shelter officials said while 27 dogs and 53 cats are still housed at the shelter, which they said are “optimal numbers,” animals keep coming into the shelter daily.

Anyone interested in adopting an animal can visit the shelter at 220 Leisure Lane in Dallas 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
