Charlotte has tapped its first digital ambassador to lead the city in spreading access to broadband Internet.

Bruce Clark, who led an independent media hub during the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, will now take the role of digital inclusion project manager – a two-year position run through the Knight School of Communication at Queens University of Charlotte.

The job is part of the city’s new effort to eliminate the “digital divide” between low-income and affluent areas in Charlotte. Google isn’t mentioned as part of the announcement, but the project comes as the online giant lays the groundwork for its Fiber network in the city.

Clark will work out of the Main Library uptown.
