Charlotte nightclub’s alcohol permits suspended after latest shooting
North Carolina’s ABC Commission has suspended the alcohol permits of a Charlotte nightclub, Club 935, after a person was shot in the stomach outside the building Aug. 7.
The commission suspended the permits late Friday based on sworn statements from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police that detailed the shooting and what the commission called the club’s “history of violence.”
According to police affidavits, 15 shots were fired Aug. 7 into a crowd outside the club by a club patron. One person was arrested.
The club in the Wesley Heights community has been the scene of several shootings in recent years, including one in February 2013 where Paul Fyffe Jr., 24, was killed.
The club is on South Summit Avenue, off West Morehead Street, and has held ABC permits since 2009. Mecklenburg County ABC Board officers served the suspension order Saturday. Club officials must appear at a hearing before an administrative law judge to respond to the suspension.
