Driver alert: See street closures for Saturday’s Charlotte marathon.
Charlotte driver alert: Several streets and intersections will be closed Saturday as a record 11,500 runners compete in the 21st annual Novant Health Charlotte Marathon.
The event begins at 7 a.m. on North Tryon Street in uptown and is expected to end around 1:30 p.m., according to race maps and the Charlotte Department of Transportation
The 26.2-mile route winds through the neighborhoods of Eastover, Myers Park, Dilworth, South End, Wilmore, Greenway, NoDa and Plaza Midwood before finishing back in uptown.
All events — the marathon, half marathon, rucking half marathon and 5K — start on South Tryon Street between Levine Avenue of the Arts and Brooklyn Village Avenue and finish on Fourth Street behind Truist Field.
On social media site X, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said these roads closed Friday afternoon and will reopen at 3:30 p.m. Saturday:
West Fourth Street, from Graham Street to South Poplar Street; and South Mint Street, from West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to West Trade Street.
South Tryon Street, between West Fourth Street and West Brooklyn Village Avenue, will close from 4 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
“All additional roads along the course will remain open, but delays should be expected throughout the Uptown area,” police said.
Runners have the right of way at intersections, which police and civilian traffic controllers will staff, CMPD said.
