2 treated after fire at Gildan Yarn plant in Salisbury

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire early Monday at a Gildan Yarn plant in Salisbury.

Reports of heavy smoke brought area firefighters to the scene on Heilig Road. Multiple departments assisted in putting out the fire.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. and it started in an area known as the filter house, Gildan spokesperson Genevieve Gosselin said.

Gosselin said all employees were evacuated and no manufacturing equipment sustained damage. However, she said some filters and plastic components within the ducts and air filtration will be replaced and some cotton fiber was lost, too.

Gosselin added that production has already resumed except for a small area that’s being cleaned up.
