Water breaks on west Charlotte roads still being patched, alternative routes added

Roads in west Charlotte flooded Wednesday morning after water pipes broke. Repairs were expected to take several hours to clear.

The N.C. Department of Transportation said the obstruction is impacting westbound travel on West Morehead Street near Interstate 77. The department said drivers should take an alternate route. Traffic in the area is expected to be impacted until 6 p.m., the department said.

Charlotte Water said westbound drivers should take Berryhill Road or Freedom Drive, and eastbound drivers should take use West 4th Street or Wilkinson Boulevard.

Charlotte Water said crews are repairing pipes at Chatham Avenue and Hartford Avenue, leaving many in the area without water on Wednesday. Charlotte Water posted an alert about the Hartford pipe at 11:18 p.m. Tuesday, and posted an alert about the Chatham pipe at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday.

The water outages were expected to last four to six hours near Chatham Avenue, Charlotte Water said, and two to four hours at Hartford Avenue.
