$2 Powerball ticket near Lake Norman lands largest national prize, officials say
A $2 Powerball ticket sold at a Lake Norman-area convenience store landed the largest prize in Monday’s national drawing, N.C. lottery officials said.
The winner remained a mystery, as no one immediately claimed the prize, officials said Tuesday.
The ticket was sold at Fast Phil’s convenience store on Charlotte Highway (U.S. 21) in Mooresville. The store is at the intersection with Waterlynn Road, just north of Interstate 77 exit 33 at the lake.
The winner matched the numbers on all the white balls – 6, 19, 22, 28 and 48. That beat odds of 1 in 11.6 million, according to the lottery’s Powerball page.
The winner has six months to claim the prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
Wednesday’s Powerball drawing has a $126 million jackpot, or $57.8 million in cash. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Powerball is among six lottery games in North Carolina where players can buy tickets at retailers, through Online Play on the lottery website and on the lottery app.
