Elementary school student hit while trying to get on bus in northeast Charlotte

A University Meadows Elementary School student was hit while trying to get on a bus in northeast Charlotte Thursday morning, according to a message sent to families by the principal.

“The student was transported to the hospital for evaluation,” said Principal Bilal Tawwab. “The bus driver immediately followed all safety protocols, and all other students were transported to school.”

CMS provided the principal’s message when asked to confirm details of the accident.

Tawwab’s message said the school contacted all families of students on the bus after the student was hurt.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spokesperson said Thursday that the student suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
