A driver died in a head-on crash in Charlotte on Thursday, police said.

Julian Allen, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck in the 9900 block of Statesville Road, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.

That’s just south of Interstate 485 and Huntersville.

Just after 5:30 p.m., police found a Dodge Charger and a Toyota Corolla off the road, both with front-end damage.

Allen was driving the Toyota, police said. Booker Crank, the 34-year-old Charger driver, was hospitalized with minor injuries, according to CMPD.

Allen was northbound when he crossed the double yellow line and hit the southbound Charger, police said their preliminary investigation showed.

It’s not clear why Allen crossed the line, police said.

Police urged anyone who saw or has information about the crash to call them at 704-432-2169, extension 4, or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tips line at 704-334-1600.

Huntersville police, Charlotte firefighters and MEDIC also responded to the wreck, CMPD said.
