I-77 Lake Norman interchange ramp to close for $249M road widening, NCDOT says
A major Lake Norman Interstate 77 entrance ramp will close for two overnights this week so crews can install storm drainage for the $249 million widening of N.C. 150 in Mooresville, state highway officials said Wednesday.
The state is expanding the N.C. 150 bridge over I-77 at exit 36 to 10 lanes, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.
Contract crews will install the drainage across the ramp from bottlenecked N.C. 150 to I-77 North at exit 36.
The ramp will be closed just after midnight Friday and Saturday and reopen by 5 a.m., according to an NCDOT news release.
N.C. 150 detours
“Signed detours will guide drivers around the closure using the following routes,” according to NCDOT:
• NC 150 east approaching I-77:
Right on Williamson Road, which is about a mile west of exit 36, then left on Brawley School Road and, a mile from there, left on I-77 North at exit 35.
• N.C. 150 west approaching I-77:
Left on Talbert Road east of exit 36, then right on Brawley School Road and right on I-77 North at exit 35.
Widening work
The closures are part of the $249 million N.C. 150 widening project between N.C. 16 in Catawba County and U.S. 21/N.C. 150 in Mooresville, including widening N.C. 150 at exit 36 to 10 lanes.
“Construction began last year, with crews upgrading storm drainage, coordinating utility installation, relocating traffic signals and installing walls to separate the work zone from traffic,” according to Wednesday’s news release.
