Person trapped in plane crash near NC airport freed, flown to trauma center

Emergency workers freed a person trapped in a plane that crashed in a field near Lincoln County Airport on Friday.

A Med Center Air helicopter crew flew the person to a trauma center, Lincolnton Fire Department officials said on social media. The person had serious injuries, officials said.

The pilot of the small plane crashed just after 5:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of Caldwell Circle, off N.C. 73 in Iron Station, according to the fire department. Another occupant was uninjured, fire officials said.

Crews freed the injured occupant in five minutes. Fire department crews “assisted with patient care and created a landing zone for the helicopter,” according to the social media post.

Officials haven’t said if the pilot or passenger was injured, and no suspected cause of the crash has been released.

The plane crashed about a half-mile from the runway, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported.

Investigating the scene
