Missing swimmer’s body recovered from Lake Norman, emergency officials say

The body of a missing swimmer was found in Lake Norman after a two-hour search Friday, emergency officials said.

Crews recovered the body around 4 p.m. in the northern, Troutman area of the lake, Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue said on social media.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved,” officials said.

Authorities haven’t released the person’s name, age or the circumstances of the death.

Body recovered near state park

Numerous fire and rescue crews responded to the scene between channel markers 19 and 20 and urged boaters to avoid the area.

Much of the search was off Shortleaf Drive near Lake Norman State Park, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported.

“If you must pass through, pass on the edge of the lake with no wake and follow instructions from law enforcement vessels,” Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue urged boaters.
