A lawn mower rider died while crossing a rural North Carolina intersection on Wednesday, a State Highway Patrol trooper said.

Larry Dale Lail, 63, of Lincolnton died after he was hit by the driver of a 1987 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe pickup truck, Senior Trooper Jake Macchia said in a news release.

Lail was hit around 3:25 p.m. while crossing Killian Road near Hoover Road, Macchia said. The intersection is northwest of Lincolnton and southwest of Maiden, Google Maps shows.

The pickup truck driver was unhurt and won’t be charged, Macchia said.
