Hi Charlotte! My name is Eva, I am a new service journalism reporter here at The Charlotte Observer. My writing will span a variety of topics, but I will often cover healthcare.
I became interested in healthcare reporting while getting my degree in journalism at The University of South Carolina — where I served as the managing editor of The Daily Gamecock — after growing up with two parents and a grandmother in nursing. I moved home to Durham after graduation for an internship, and then to Western North Carolina.
Friday, May 1 was my first day living in Charlotte.
I am excited to grow my passion for healthcare reporting in this role and help others navigate a crucial and often complicated sphere of their lives.
I also write local utility stories for Know Your 704, helping Charlotteans get more connected to their city. (The service desk can help you with just about anything, whether it be weather forecasts, restaurant closures or copperhead season.)
So far, I have covered a new COVID-19 variant, drought restrictions, teacher protests, cancer treatments and more.
When I’m not writing, you might find me:
- Baking intricate cakes that may topple over
- In yoga class, perhaps also about to topple over
- In the nonfiction section of the library
- Hiking and camping
- With my cat, Wally — who is not named after the Pixar robot, despite the fact my name is Eva
- Flying my drone (don’t worry, I have my license!)
