Two crashes within hours of each other backed up traffic on Interstate 77 in Charlotte on Friday afternoon.

The first wreck, just after 2 p.m., closed the right lane of I-77 northbound near Arrowood Road exit 3, according to DriveNC, the state’s real-time traffic incident site.

The second, nearby wreck happened around 4:30 p.m., closing two of the three northbound lanes, DriveNC reported.

“Expected impact to traffic is High,” according to the site.

The lanes opened by 5:30 p.m., officials said.
