Flooding threat remains as more rain expected in region
Widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms are likely again in the Charlotte region Thursday, raising concerns about more flash flooding in areas already soaked from Wednesday’s heavy rains.
Some of the storms could be severe, with lightning, strong winds and small hail, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.
A man was injured Wednesday night when lightning tore apart the chimney of his home in the 8700 block of Taunton Drive off Wynfield Creek Parkway in Huntersville, fire officials said.
The lightning strike sparked a fire that heavily damaged the home.
The Charlotte area has a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms through Thursday night, with the chances dropping to 20 percent Friday and Saturday, according to the weather service.
Sunday and Monday should be mostly sunny, before a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms returns Tuesday.
