Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to speak at Queens University

Justin Trudeau, prime minister of Canada from 2015 to 2025, will speak at Queens University of Charlotte this fall as part of a speaker series, according to a news release.

Trudeau is expected to address the influences of technology and crises on community and democracy in a lecture titled “Navigating Change, Empowering Progress: A Roadmap for Leaders Committed to Community and Democracy.” The lecture will take place in the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for the Arts and Civic Engagement at 7 p.m. on October 27 as part of the Learning Society’s semiannual speaker series.

“His experience navigating high-stakes international diplomacy and domestic challenges provides our students and the broader Charlotte community with a rare, first-hand perspective on the resilience required to lead during a time of unprecedented global challenges and change,” said Jesse Cureton ’02, acting president of Queens University of Charlotte.

Over his 10 years, Trudeau, a leader of Canada’s Liberal Party, guided the country through challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic, trade disputes with the U.S., its involvement in the invasion of Ukraine and received awards for his commitment to global change and environmental protection.

Since 1988, the Learning Society, based at Queens, has brought speakers to Charlotte to share their experiences and perspectives. The organization seeks to connect “lifelong learners with the next generation of leaders,” according to the release.

Notable past speakers included Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Steve Forbes. Venus Williams will speak at the organization’s February event.

Tickets will be available for purchase in August.
