A Charlotte pedestrian was hit and killed trying to cross Statesville Road

A man was hit and killed as he tried to cross Statesville Road on Thursday night, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Keith Diontaquawn Blanks was hit by a Chevrolet Traverse at about 9:19 p.m. Police say he was crossing in the 5400 block of Statesville Road, near Nevin Park, outside a designated crosswalk.

Blanks, 34, died at the spot of the collision.

The driver, 26-year-old Saah Foiyoe, was neither speeding nor impaired, according to police. Foiyoe, who was alone in the SUV, was not injured.

Police are investigating the crash and ask witnesses or anyone with information to contact Detective M. Pressley at 704-432-2169, ext. 2.
