Traffic was at a standstill on Interstate 85 in north Charlotte and southern Cabarrus County to near the Concord Mills mall exit in Concord after an accident Saturday afternoon, the state’s real-time traffic map showed.

“The 3 right lanes are closed on I-85 Northbound past Exit 48 in Mecklenburg County due to crash,” officials reported on DriveNC.gov just before 2:30 p.m.

The site does not indicate how long the congestion is expected to last, so it’s best to find another route.

Around 2:45 p.m., WCNC reported that police were letting drivers use the center-divide area to bypass the crash scene.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
