Man fatally shoots himself after a police search at Concord apartment complex

A man fatally shot himself near a Concord apartment complex near U.S. 29 Thursday after police cleared the complex and searched for the man in nearby woods.

The man’s family had asked police to check on him after he’d sent them strange text messages hours earlier, police said.

Police locked down the Parkway Crossing Apartments on Samuel Adams Circle, but lifted it after the man was found dead in the woods.

The man, who name was not released, lived in the apartment community. He fired shots in the complex, then ran off – triggering the search, police said.

They found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound about 8 p.m. police said.
