Man arrested in week-old Charlotte shooting

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged a man last Thursday with 12 counts of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

CMPD said Cedric Young, 18, is a suspect in an Aug. 15 drive-by shooting that left a woman with a gunshot wound after she tried to protect her child from gunfire.

Police said Young was identified during the investigation as one of three men who drove by an apartment building on Marvin Road and began shooting at the building.

When CMPD tried to arrest Young, he fled on foot, police said. He was caught after a brief foot chase that included the police dogs, according to police. Young is in custody at Mecklenburg County Jail.
