Elizabeth Smart to speak at Hood Hargett Breakfast Club
Elizabeth Smart, whose abduction at age 14 drew international media attention, will speak at the Hood Hargett Breakfast Club, 7:30-9:45 a.m. Sept. 11 at Carmel Country Club, 4735 Carmel Road.
Smart was kidnapped from her bedroom in her family’s home in Salt Lake City on June 5, 2002. She was rescued nine months later.
Smart, 27, wrote about her experiences in the New York Times best-seller “My Story.”
Through the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, she has become an advocate for change related to child safety. She has helped promote the national Amber Alert system, the Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act and other safety legislation to help prevent abductions.
