A grease blockage caused 1,060 gallons of sewage to spill into a tributary of Four Mile Creek in the 4700 block of Andrew Links Street in south Charlotte on Monday, near the TPC Piper Glen golf course and Piper Glen Estates.
“A majority of sanitary sewer overflows can be prevented with your help,” Charlotte Water spokesman Cam Coley said in a news release announcing the overflow. “Anything put in plumbing or a manhole can cause sanitary sewer overflows, spilling raw sewage into your street, your creek or even your own home. Even products labeled as ‘flushable’ do not breakdown in the sewer system and can contribute to clogging.”
