Girl drowns in Rowan County family’s backyard pool

A girl who would have turned 2 in October drowned Monday in her family’s pool in the 9500 block of Castor Road, off N.C. 152 East, Rowan County sheriff’s investigators said.

Sheriff’s deputies and responders from the Bostian Heights Fire Department and Rowan County EMS were called to the home about 3 p.m. and tried unsuccessfully to revive the girl.

The girl was found face down in an above-ground pool behind her parents’ home, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said. The parents immediately called 911 when they found their daughter, investigators said.

The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the girl. Joe Marusak
