Matthews restaurant manager charged with illegally using debit card number

A Matthews restaurant manager was charged Friday for stealing a debit card number from a customer and using it to ring up $700 worth of unauthorized purchases, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Friday.

Police said Ivan Hinestroza, 36, a manager at Tacos & Tequila in Matthews, stole the victim’s debit card number after the victim used his card at the restaurant. The victim told police that someone had fraudulently used the number all June to make the purchases, police said.

The victim said he had his card while it was being illegally used.

Detectives in CMPD’s Financial Crimes Unit said they gathered evidence against Hinestroza and Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him Tuesday. He was charged with obtaining property by false pretense.
