Lincolnton woman killed in early Saturday wreck in Gastonia
A Lincolnton woman was killed early Saturday when her car was hit by a pickup truck that had crossed the center line on East Garrison Boulevard in Gastonia.
Jonny Worthy, 59, died from injuries in the crash. A passenger, 47-year-old Carol Hicks of Gastonia, was treated for injuries. Gastonia police charged Norman Dunaway Jr., the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet pickup, with driving while impaired and Officer B.J. Bain plans to consult with the district attorney’s office about possible additional charges.
Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors, police said.
Dunaway was traveling westbound on Garrison when he crossed the center line. When police arrived at the crash scene near Peachtree Street members of Gaston County Emergency Medical Services were treating Worthy, who had to be cut out of her 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier.
She died later at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
Anyone with additional information on the wreck call Bain at 704-866-6702.
