Discovery Place, Charlotte’s popular hands-on science center, has been named one of the 25 Best American Children’s Museums.

The ranking by Early Childhood Education Zone recognizes children’s museums for hands-on activities, cost and available parking, membership fees and benefits, traveling exhibits and even for having a restaurant on site.

In rating facilities across the country, the panel also considered options for educational programs, including camps, day classes and special events such as family nights.

Discovery Place was rated in the top 20, in fact, in Early Childhood Education Zone’s ranking, placing at No. 19.

The organization’s online entry calls the popular Charlotte destination “a great family museum to experience science, nature and, recreational activity.”

“Discovery Place was built to inspire, educate, and challenge children with exhibits centered on science, mathematics, technology, engineering, nature, and interactive experiences,” the entry on Discovery Place says.
