Wednesday’s partly sunny skies could give way to rain

Wednesday’s expected partly sunny skies and seasonal temperatures will soon give way to the prospect of rain and cooler weather for the rest of the week in the Charlotte area.

High pressure north of the region will keep most of us dry again Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.

But an area of low pressure is expected to move onto the Carolina coast Thursday, increasing the chance of rain spreading inland, forecasters said.

Wednesday’s expected high of 79 is normal for the first day of fall in Charlotte.

Highs, however, are forecast to drop to 72 Thursday, 71 Friday and Saturday and 73 Sunday, before climbing again to 77 Monday and 81 Tuesday.

The chance of rain stands at 40 percent Thursday, 60 percent Thursday night and Friday, 50 percent Friday night and Saturday, and 40 percent Saturday night and Sunday, according to the latest NWS forecast.

Partly sunny skies should finally return Monday and mostly sunny skies Tuesday.
