Bicyclist critically injured in wreck with CATS bus
A bicyclist was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday after turning into the path of a CATS bus in the 9000 block of Statesville Road on Wednesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective Steve Williams said.
Bus driver Diane Holmes, 52, swerved to avoid striking the bicyclist as the bus traveled north about 10:30 a.m., but the right front of the bus struck the bike, Williams said.
The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing at the time of the crash, Williams said. The collision happened near West W.T. Harris Boulevard.
Medic took the bicyclist to Carolinas Medical Center. Police are withholding the bicyclist’s name until family members are notified. No other injuries were reported.
Neither speed nor alcohol contributed to the crash, Williams said.
Any witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Williams at 704-336-8862. Joe Marusak
