Police ID driver killed in Newton head-on wreck

Newton police on Thursday identified the driver killed in a three-car pileup Wednesday evening as Corey Dylan Good, 18, of Hickory.

Police are still investigating the wreck, and no charges have been filed, police Maj. Tim Hayes said.

Good was driving a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon south on U.S. 321 during rush hour when it collided head-on with a northbound 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck turning left onto West 15th Street, Hayes said.

The truck driver, Mickey Shane Bunton, 43, of Granite Falls, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and was expected to be released on Thursday, Hayes said.

The truck was pushed up an embankment into the parking lot of Mike’s Wholesale Cars and came to rest against a vehicle that was for sale on the lot.

The spare tire on the truck dislodged and struck the hood and windshield of a vehicle driven by Courtney Marie Stone, 28, of the town of Catawba. Stone and passenger Ryan Joseph Worden, also 28 and from Catawba, were uninjured.
