Service on Saturday for PTA integration pioneer Charlotte Watkins

A memorial service for Charlotte Watkins, who died Aug. 20 at 94, will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte, 234 N. Sharon Amity Road.

Watkins, who spent decades working for justice in education and health care, led efforts to merge black and white PTAs in Mecklenburg County and North Carolina in the 1960s.
