A five-vehicle wreck that snarled traffic on East Independence Boulevard Friday morning has since been cleared.

The wreck happened about 8 a.m. at the Eastway Drive ramp, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Multiple motorists in the wreck had non-life-threatening injuries, Medic reported. “They are currently being evaluated,” Medic said on its Twitter account shortly after 8 a.m.

Earlier, police responded to a hit-and-run wreck involving a CATS bus on Sharon Road West just east of South Boulevard.

Passengers were taken off the bus and put onto another bus about 7:20 a.m. One passenger was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with minor injuries.

Lanes on Idlewild Road near East W.T. Harris Boulevard in Charlotte reopened about 7 a.m. Friday.

All lanes were closed shortly before 6 a.m. when a car hit a utility pole, knocking power lines onto the road.
