Charlotte traffic: Wrecks snarl I-77 southbound in Charlotte

An injury wreck at the Brookshire Freeway and another wreck near Remount Road snarled traffic on Interstate 77 southbound in Charlotte on Saturday.

The wreck at Brookshire Freeway happened shortly before 6 p.m. and the other wreck about 5:30 p.m.

By 6 p.m., traffic had resumed normal patterns at Remount Road, state highway officials said.

Injury wrecks have been reported on West W.T. Harris Boulevard at Lakeview Road, on Kenilworth Avenue at Romany Road and, in Huntersville, on Gilead Road at Rosedale Hill Avenue.

Other wrecks happened on the Independence Boulevard/I-277 ramp at Central Avenue, on Freedom Drive at the northbound I-85 ramp, at the Independence Boulevard/I-277 ramp at East Brookshire Freeway and in the 13500 block of Johnston Road in south Charlotte.

Saturday morning, girls ages 3 and 11 and their mother were in critical condition after their car hit a median on U.S. 321 in Lincoln County and flipped three times, Observer media partner WBTV reported. Joe Marusak
