Pedestrian killed when State Highway Patrol car strikes him on I-85 in Charlotte
A man trying to dart across lanes on Interstate 85 in Charlotte was struck and killed early Friday by the car of a State Highway Patrol trooper who was on routine patrol, the Highway Patrol said.
The man was Derrick Mason of Charlotte, according to the Highway Patrol.
Mason was struck about 1 a.m. near West Sugar Creek Road as he tried to cross I-85’s northbound lanes.
Three of the four northbound lanes were closed until 6:45 a.m. as the Highway Patrol investigated.
