After the sale of Cramerton Mills Inc., in 1946, family members headed in different directions.

Charlotte resident Stuart Cramer Jr. spent three years in Washington chairing the national Munitions Board. His son, Stuart Cramer III, graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and worked for the Central Intelligence Agency before going to California in the 1950s. Described by the media at the time as a “playboy,” Cramer married film star Jean Peters in May 1954 after they met in Rome while she was filming “Three Coins in the Fountain.” She separated from Cramer that July and later married billionaire Howard Hughes.

In 1959, Cramer married actress Terry Moore, star of such movies as “MightyJoe Young” and “Peyton Place.” The couple had two sons, Stuart Cramer IV and Grant. The couple divorced in 1972. Stuart Cramer IV is a real estate investor and Grant Cramer is an actor and producer who has starred in television and films.

A real estate investor in California, Oregon and Colorado, Stuart Cramer III, 87, has been married 43 years to television actress Dee Hartford, who had previously been married to film director Howard Hawks.
