Sanctuary demolished as Rock Hill church plans expansion
Demolition crews cleared the remains of the sanctuary at Mount Holly United Methodist Church on Wednesday as the Rock Hill church prepares to build a new worship facility.
The sanctuary was built in 1925. The bell tower, with the cornerstone and a time capsule, will remain.
A 10,000-square-foot sanctuary with twice the seating capacity – 400 seats – will be built on the same location. Parishioners will attended services at the church’s family life center during construction. The church hopes to dedicate its new sanctuary in April.
Church officials said they had outgrown the old sanctuary and needed more space.
