Car strikes house in Rock Hill; one flown out by helicopter
UPDATE: Rock Hill police have charged the driver of the truck with DUI. Jason Robert Thompson, 39, remains in critical condition in a Charlotte hospital.
A car wreck in Rock Hill left one person with serious injuries Sunday night, with the injured party being flown from the scene by helicopter.
The wreck occurred around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, when a red pickup truck struck the side of a house on Evergreen Circle. The truck apparently left the roadway near Marydale Lane and passed through the front yard and driveway of a neighboring house, knocking through a portion of a tree line between the homes.
Rock Hill police had the neighbor’s house taped off Sunday night while officers photographed the surrounding street for evidence.
Emergency responders raced to the scene and an emergency landing zone was set up nearby at the Winthrop Coliseum. One person was flown from the scene by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. It was not immediately clear what the extent of the person’s injuries were.
