Wreck kills 1, blocks Woodlawn Road for rush hour
A Charlotte woman was killed Monday when the Lexus she was driving drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a car head-on, police said.
Police identified the woman killed in the wreck as Jean Jacobs Wilson, 64. She was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center shortly after the 3 p.m. crash on Woodlawn Road, near its intersection with Scaleybark Road in southwest Charlotte.
Police said Wilson was headed east on Woodlawn when her 2006 Lexus sedan crossed into the westbound lanes. A woman driving a Cadillac SUV in the opposing lane tried to avoid Wilson’s Lexus, but the two vehicles struck head-on, rotating the Lexus, which was then hit by another SUV.
Wilson was not wearing her seat belt when the crash occurred, police said. The other drivers suffered only minor injuries. Police do not believe any of the drivers were speeding or had been drinking alcohol.
Woodlawn Road was closed in the area through rush hour.
