Fire leaves Kannapolis family homeless

A Kannapolis family escaped injury after fire broke out in their home early Tuesday.

It took firefighters about a half-hour to control the blaze, which occurred in the 1800 block of Middlebury Court. The home was extensively damaged, and the American Red Cross is helping the family, authorities said.

No injuries were reported.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
