Eleven days of good weather helped propel the N.C. State Fair to its second-best attendance on record.

Sunday, the final day of the fair, drew 107,397 visitors, pushing the total for the 11-day run to 1,019,738.

That’s only the third time fair attendance has topped 1 million and is second only to the record of 1,091,887, set in 2010.

All three fairs with 1 million-plus visitors have occured after 2008, when the State Fair added a half-day preview on the Thursday before the opening weekend. This year’s preview day drew more than 50,000 people, a record for that day.

The first Friday also set a record, with 90,954 visitors. None of the remaining days set records, but all exceeded historical averages going back to 1990.
