Charlotte traffic: Part of North Tryon blocked after wreck
Part of North Tryon Street is blocked early Wednesday near Matheson Avenue after a wreck that knocked down power lines.
The wreck has closed Tryon in both directions between 30th and 32nd streets. A tractor-trailer struck a utility pole, knocking down lines, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.
Drivers can use Graham Street as an alternate route.
Also, a wreck has closed the left lane of southbound Interstate 85 between Graham Street and Statesville Avenue.
The wrecks are part of multiple problems on Charlotte-area roads as the morning commute goes on. Periodic rain, at times heavy, is contributing to some traffic woes.
Earlier, a left lane of I-77 near I-277 was closed for about 20 minutes after a wreck.
In other traffic news, the 300 block of Hawthorne Lane between Park Drive and East Seventh Street is closed until further notice for emergency road repairs.
The Charlotte Department of Transportation said it is working to restore the street as soon as possible, but work could be delayed due to Wednesday’s persistent rain.
Motorists can use East Fourth Street, Charlottetowne Avenue and East Seventh Street as a detour.
The closure is affecting CATS service.
