The victim in a fatal crash in Shelby has been identified as a teacher at Cleveland Community College, according to the State Highway Patrol.

School officials said Linda Chandler taught a psychology at the college since 2001.

“The whole CCC family is deeply saddened by this tragic loss,” Shannon Kennedy, the college’s executive vice president, said Saturday.

The wreck happened at about 8:40 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Oak Grove Road.

According to reports, Chandler was driving east on Elizabeth Avenue and pulled in front of a car traveling west on Oak Grove Road, colliding head-on.

Chandler was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

Speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the wreck, and no one was charged.
