Charlotte traffic: Wreck injures 2, knocks power lines onto Sunset Road

A wreck involving an overturned SUV injured two people and knocked power lines onto Sunset Road at Peachtree Road on Wednesday morning.

Medic, the county’s paramedic service, reported taking the injured to Carolinas Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The downed lines temporarily closed Sunset Road in both directions. The lanes were reported open shortly after 9 a.m., although traffic remained backed up.

In other traffic news:

▪ The left lane of northbound Sharon Amity Road at East Independence Boulevard will be closed until about 4 p.m. Wednesday for pavement repairs, state highway officials said.

Use Wendover Road and Eastway Drive to cross Independence.

▪ A lane of northbound I-77 that was closed overnight because of a wreck at the Clanton Road exit reopened shortly before 5 a.m., the N.C. Department of Transportation reported.

Two men ran from a Dodge Charger after the wreck, and police had one of them in custody, Observer news partner WBTV reported.
