A man was hit and killed by a Lynx light rail train early Friday just south of the Archdale Drive station, police said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Shawn Darnell Davis, 48, died after he laid down in the southbound track and was struck by the train as it left the station.
Police said the train’s operator never realized she’d hit someone.
“The Lynx light rail operator did not see the victim in the tracks or know that she had struck the victim,” police said in a statement.

Police said Davis had walked onto the track from the Archdale Drive platform and was struck a few minutes later. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:50 a.m.
Police have not said whether they know why Davis was lying in the tracks.
