Expect a slow, messy commute this afternoon if you use Interstate 85 to get home.

Crews are working to clean up a concrete spill that’s covering two lanes of traffic on I-85 north between W.T. Harris Boulevard and Mallard Creek Road. In total, three lanes are closed for the cleanup, with traffic backed up for miles.

The N.C. Department of Transportation encouraged travelers to “slow down, use caution and expect delays through the area.”

The N.C. DOT expects the road to be cleared by 6:30 p.m., but travelers can check for updates on the department’s website.

Motorists can also call 511 for real-time travel information.
