Charlotte traffic: Providence Road West reopens
Providence Road West between Johnston Road and Lancaster Highway reopened at 9 a.m. Thursday after having been closed for hours.
The road was closed early Thursday after a tree fell and knocked power lines onto the road.
Meanwhile, strong overnight showers flooded numerous roads in Union and Stanly counties.
At 8:30 a.m., the state Department of Transportation reported that Howie Road in Union County was closed due to rushing water at the intersection with Porter Road. Howie Road wasn’t expected to reopen until 11 a.m.
Also at 8 a.m., the traffic signal on Beatties Ford Road near Interstate 85 was out because of a power outage in the area. Police said it could be two or three hours before power is restored to the signals. They urged motorists to avoid the area.
Other Union County roads that flooded overnight were Antioch Church Road, between Weddington and Beulah Church roads near Weddington; Baucom Deese Road near Oakdale Road; Howey Bottoms Road near Mill Grove Road; Lawyers Road near New Salem Road; Medlin Road at Macedonia Church Road; North Charlotte Avenue at the railroad underpass in Monroe; Potter Road at Parkwood School Road; Rocky River Road near Doster Road; and Stack Road near Jug Broome Road
