Autopsy confirms Charlotte pastor died of accidental gunshot wound

An autopsy has confirmed that a Charlotte pastor died of an accidental gunshot wound in August.

The N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner found no signs of foul play in the death of Bishop Phillip Davis, founder and senior pastor of Nations Ford Community Church, according to an autopsy report.

Davis was found dead inside his Union County home. Davis appeared to have accidentally shot himself, the Union County sheriff’s office said at the time.

Davis, 62, was apparently cleaning his pistol at his home in Weddington when it accidentally fired, striking him in the chest, the sheriff’s office said. He had invited his adult son to go to a firing range with him later that day.
